An account of Obama's response to Bush's will-he-won't-he, 8,000 troop draw-down plan. Hit it hard, Bah-Rock!
Taking their eyes off the ball, McCain and Bush the Junior BOTH supported going to Iraq directly after 9/11. In fact, if you take some time and read the linked article, you'll find that McCain was calling for an Iraq war nearly six months BEFORE Bush the Junior's White House.
But, it goes back much further than that. You see, McCain was forming ideas about how to re-fight Vietnam way back in 1974, while Bush the Junior was still trying to shake off his latest DUI. One of McCain's core ideas: that the reason so many American POWs turned on their country was because of the anti-war movement back home. So, I guess, one of the things he was fighting for (Freedom of Expression) could also be blamed for what he saw as a betrayal by the guys he was incarcerated with.
No wonder the guy wanted to do Iraq, Take Two so badly! He wanted to give the new generation of soldiers something he never had...domestic support for their conflict. Hey, I have a great idea that took me five minutes to dream up (and I'm definitely no rocket scientist): How about you give this new generation of soldiers peace and prosperity and INDIVIDUAL support and stop rallying the domestic masses to send them into wars that are fraudulent?
And what about Barack Obama's positions on this war McCain was so vehemently calling for? Just push play.
The point of contention isn't the surge. It's about all the horrible judgment that caused the needless deaths and suffering and all the wasted money and debt that FORCED us into this situation in the first place. So, now, while McCain and Bushes are breaking their arms (or re-breaking them, as the case may be) patting themselves on the back about the success of the surge, just remember this: ANYBODY can screw something up so badly that things couldn't get any worse and then take credit when they swing back the other way. It takes a REAL leader to stand up and make the intelligent call at the beginning.
Now, who do you believe in?
