God's Politics?

By now, I'm sure you've heard your fair share, from both sides, about Sarah Palin's foreign policy experience and her relationships (adversarial or otherwise) with big business. And, you've already heard about her faith because, as we all know, only GOP candidates have unassailable faith (not to mention God) on their side.

But have you heard how Mrs. Palin puts them together? In front of an audience of master's commission students, in the very church where she was saved, Mrs. Palin delivers subtle religious endorsements for the war in Iraq and the exploitation of the natural resources in the Great State of Alaska.

I'll tell you what, I'll just both parts and you can watch them and see if you can spot the sections I've just outlined. It'll only take you twelve minutes and change (there's that word again) to watch. Give it a shot!

Oh, and don't forget to listen for her account of being prayed over by her pastor. Does that sound like God chose her for public office to you? Decide for yourself. If it does, ask yourself this question: Where have you heard that before?

Man, isn't it great when a "Wal-Mart Hockey Mom" passes a kid's love to his former nanny? You know, she really IS just like the rest of those hard-working Moms out there, isn't she? Now, before you go all "you're a sexist" on me, you might want to stop and think about WHO is portraying that image of Mrs. Palin.

As far as the other talking points in the video go...

Now that you've watched, you could be saying, "Well, she's just asking that they pray for these things so that people can come home safely and can have jobs." Are you sure? Unfortunately, until Mrs. Palin sits down with ABC's Charlie Gibson, we won't know any of her beliefs on these subjects and how they fit in with her religion. And that's assuming Old Charlie Hangdog actually asks anything other than softball questions. So, speeches and recorded answers on public stages are the only windows we have into this candidate's mind. And we have to scrutinize those for answers before heading into the voting booth...especially if the McCain media lockdown on Palin will continue after the Gibson interview.

If you, yourself, believe in God's plan, let me ask you this: Is there a difference between giving in to that plan, following wherever it leads and trying to direct it by praying for particular policies? I'm just asking, because to me, there is a difference...a big one. To me, it feels like Mrs. Palin is using religion to justify her state economic and (to a lesser degree) foreign policy.

Of course, for anyone who comments on this, don't bother calling me a heathen because I'm asking questions, because I would call you a few names for NOT questioning. And that's just a stalemate. It doesn't accomplish anything, does it? So (and I can't believe I HAVE to say this) keep the discussion civil.
